Death Game Analysis of Netflix’s “Alice in Borderland”
This is part three of an ongoing series of brainstorms dissecting death games from Netflix’s Alice in Borderland. Start from Part 1 here.
For varying narrative (and probably financial) reasons, the show blasts us with several games in quick succession. The montage swaps through four games and shows just the “highlights.” We don’t get specific rules, and some don’t even have playing cards assigned.
Welcome to my attempt at dissecting games that are seen for less than 5 minutes of the show.
Game 5: Beast Hunter
Set in an amusement park and without a clear limit to the number of participants, the game's goal relates to earning points by killing various animals that roam the park. The points depend on how dangerous an animal is to kill. As you can see in the image above, a tiger is worth 100 points while an eagle is only worth 30 points.
There are a couple of possibilities for this game's clear conditions, so I am going to break those down individually and include my thoughts on the game design…
